Stakes Recap Week of June 14th thru June 16th

     The action packed stakes weekend started off at Vernon Downs on Friday June 14th where we saw two divisions of the New York Sires Stakes 3 Year Old Colts & Geldings Pace and four divisions of the New York Excelsior Series 3 Year Old Colts & Geldings Pace. The card also saw two divisions of the Empire Breeders Classic 3 Year Old Colts & Geldings Trot and one division of the Empire Breeders Classic 3 Year Old Fillies Trot take place. Both New York Sires Stakes divisions were captured by trainer Travis Alexander and driver Matt Kakaley in the first division they sent Howlenthehills out to a 1:50 mile last quarter in :27.3 the second division saw the connections send out Reggie The Forth in a 1:51.1 romp last quarter in :28.3 the connections also took a division of the Excelsior Series giving them a driving and training triple on the card in stake action. The first division of the Empire Breeders Classic 3 Year Old Colts & Geldings Trot saw Situationship take his division for driver trainer Ake Svanstedt in 1:52.1 last quarter :28. The second division saw Wild Ticket pick up the pieces in 1:53.2 final quarter :27.4 for trainer Marcus Melander and driver Dexter Dunn. In the lone division of the Empire Breeders Classic 3 Year Old Fillies Trot went to Honey's Sweet in 1:52 final quarter :27 for driver Yannick Gingras and trainer Tony Alagna. The stakes card saw Matt Kakaley and Travis Alexander have hat tricks while Dexter Dunn and Jason Bartlett both had doubles in stake action on the day.

    Scioto Downs saw Ohio Sire Stakes 3 Year Old Fillies Trot go in two divisions and five divisions of the Buckeye Series 3 Year Old Colts and Geldings Trot be contested. Jurassic Hattie took her division of the Ohio Sire Stakes 3 Year Old Fillies Trot in 1:52.3 last quarter :27.4 for driver Brett Miller and trainer Eric Nesselroad. The second division saw Sugar Instead take her division in 1:53.2 last quarter in :28.3 for driver Brett Miller and trainer Virgil Morgan Jr. Leading Brett Miller to have a hat trick in stake action on the card.

    Hoosier Park saw one division of Indiana Sires Stakes Eligible 3 Year Old Colts & Geldings Pace and two division of the Indiana Sire Stakes 3 Year Old Colts & Geldings Pace take to the track. In the first division of the Indiana Sire Stakes action we saw Tellmeitmatters hit the line in 1:49 blazing a last quarter in :25.4 for driver John De Long and trainer Roger Welch. In the second division of action we saw Sabonis hit the wire in 1:48.2 last quarter in :26.2 for driver Joey Putnam and trainer Aaron Stutzman.

    The Meadowlands had stake action as well on Friday night as they had four divisions of the Graduate Series for 4 Year Olds in which we had two divisions of pacers and trotters. The first trot division saw Hasty Bid win in 1:51.3 last quarter :28 for driver James MacDonald and trainer Nancy Takter. In the second division we saw Winners's Bet start his season of with a 1:50 victory last panel in :26.3 for driver Dexter Dunn and trainer Nancy Takter taking both troth divisions on the card. The pacers took to their divisions on a lighting fast track both goin in 1:47.3 the first division saw No Control upset for driver Jordan Stratton and trainer Tan Micallef. The second saw James MacDonald guide another pupil to the winners circle in which Coach Stefanos came flying home in :25.4 for trainer Erv Miller to take the second and final division of the Graduate Series Action.

    Saturdays action packed day of racing saw us start off with the 50th running of the Currier & Ives 3 Year Old Trot at The Meadows where we saw two divisions contested for nearly $50,000. In the first division we saw Splendid win in 1:53.4 last quarter in :28.1 for driver Chris Less and trainer Todd Rooney. The second division saw Aaron Merriman send Spaaaazano to the point not to look back in a 1:53.3 mile final quarter :28.1 for trainer Chris Beaver.

    Hoosier Park saw one division of the Indiana Sires Stakes Eligible 3 Year Old Fillies Pace and two divisions of the Indiana Sires Stakes 3 Year Old Fillies Pace take to the track on Saturday Night. The first division of the Indiana Sires Stakes was won by Lets Go Endofaera in 1:50.1 last quarter :26.2 for driver John De Long and trainer Tabatha De Long. The second division saw Atlee Bender take the Erv Miller pupil Jada Caroline to the wire in 1:49.4 final panel of :26.3.

    Century Downs had their Breeders Stakes for 3 Year Old Pacers on Saturday afternoon where we saw the Shirley McClellan Breeders Stake 3 Year Old Fillies Final goin for $118,000 CDN and the Moore's Mile Breeders Stake 3 Year Old Colts & Geldings Pace Final go $90,000 CDN. The 3 Year Old Fillies Final was taken by Byby Baby Byby in 1:54.1 final quarter :28.2 for driver Michael Hennessy and trainer Rodney Hennessy. The colts & geldings final saw Grey Horizon win his division in 1:53.2 final quarter :28.4 for trainer driver Brandon Campbell.

    Woodbine Mohawk Park captured all the eyes of the harness world as they sent forth a program bursting with stake action all headlined by the Pepsi North America Cup. In the first stake event of the evening we saw Call Me Goo take the Ambro Flight in 1:51.2 final quarter :26.4 for driver Tim Tetrick and trainer Jason Skinner. The next race we saw the consolation for the Pepsi North America Cup take place with a massive upset with Remember The Alamo grinding down Clever Cody in 1:49.2 final quarter :26.1 for driver Todd McCarthy and trainer Tony Alagna. The Goodtimes Final was up next where we saw the coming out party for Highland Kismet where he dazzled the world with his dominate performance in 1:51.3 final quarter :26.4 with driver Bob McClure setting like a statue in the bike for trainer Mark Etsell putting his name in the hat for Hambo aspirations. The Mohawk Gold Cup was up next on the card where we saw a wild finish with three horses across the track with Linedrive Hanover taking it in a fast 1:47.2 flying home in :26.1 for driver James MacDonald and trainer Anthony Beaton. More local stars took the winner circle as the Fan Hanover was up next and It's A Love Thing blew by Geocentric and put away her foes in 1:48.2 final panel of :26.2 for driver James MacDonald and trainer Dave Menary. Twin B Joe Fresh was next up on the card where she did not disappoint taking the Roses Are Red Final in 1:48.1 last quarter :26.3 for driver and co-owner Dexter Dunn and trainer co-owner Chris Ryder. Lastly the main event of the weekend took place where we saw one of the most evenly matched cards in a long time take place in The Pepsi North America Cup. It did not disappoint it was a action packed race which we got to see the Anthony Beaton trainee Nijinsky continue to impress taking the Pepsi North America Cup in 1:48.1 last quarter in :26.2 giving a emotional Louis-Philippe Roy his biggest driving win to date. 

    Sunday Night we turned our attention to Pocono Downs where we saw two divisions of the Pennsylvania Sire Stakes 3 Year Old Fillies Trot take place coupled with four divisions of the Stallion Series for 3 Year Old Fillies Trot. In the first division we saw Elista Hanover build on a ever improving resume winning her division in 1:52.3 last quarter in :27.4 for driver David Miller and trainer Annie Stoebe. The second division saw north of the border invaders continue to take stake races in the US as Luc Blais and Louis-Philippe Roy take the second division in 1:53.4 last quarter in :27.3. The card saw David Miller take four of the stake events giving him another impressive weekend of stake action.

    Lastly on the weekend we saw Running Aces have two Minnesota Sired Stakes take place for both colts & geldings and fillies trot. We saw Wherever Rio Goes take the colts and geldings division in 1:59.2 last quarter in :31.3 for driver Sean Smithpeters and trainer Alexia Kehl. In the fillies division we saw Baby Flash win in 200.2 last quarter in :31 for driver Chad Svendsen and trainer Rich Huffman.
